UNICA Center South Cane Crush for the 1st half of June

UNICA Sugar Output 1st Half of June 2018

Good morning,

Center South cane crush rose 6.4% YoY to 42,034 TMT and cumulative crush continues to outpace last year by 16.65%.  The sugar production mix continues to favor ethanol production as only 36.47% of the harvest went to sugar production and cumulatively 35.02% has been allocated to sugar.  This continues to be lower than last year’s cumulative allocation to sugar of 46.33%.

Total sugar production is only behind LY by -7.83% partly because sucrose per tonne continues to be above year ago levels by roughly 5%.  Sugar cane harvest yields for the first half of June were 85.52 tonnes per hectare which is -1.74% below year ago levels.

The extended dry weather that had helped the season get off to an early start to the crushing season has had a longer term detrimental effect on the crop according to UNICA.  It will mean a reduction in the productivity of the sugar cane harvested in the coming months.  Will wait and see for now.

Have a good day,
